Royal Pardon

His Majesty the King has announced a bill to grant prisoners held at the Corrections Department with a royal pardon.

Up to 25,000 prisoners of the 170,000 currently being held there are expected to be freed through the royal pardon to mark His Majesty the King’s 80th birthday anniversary on Dec 5.

Most of the inmates freed would have been serving a minor jail sentence of less than one year. Others, who are serving punishments for more severe crimes, will have their sentences commuted.

Dr Wisuth Boonkamsemsant, charged with the murder of his wife, Dr Phassaporn several years ago and sentenced to death, is one of the lucky ones who had his sentence commuted to life in prison.

• Japanese Tourist Drowns at Larn island - Pattaya Sea Rescue Units were called into action on Larn Island on Tuesday morning after reports of a missing Japanese tourist were received. The body of the Japanese Tourist later named as Mr. Fujita Toroo aged 56, was found. [via Pattaya City News]

• Music copyright scam - Sakura 96 Bar, Soi 15, Walking Street, complained that a man who claimed he was from the Red Beat International Co, a record label based in Bangkok, demanded money due to copyright violations at the bar. The sum of 60,000 Baht was handed over to a man named as Khun Prabit on 6th December to cover copyright violation offences. However, Khun Prabit was in fact from a rival record label and on 10th December another representative from the Red Beat Company went to the bar and was told by the owner that money had already been paid over to Khun Prabit. We understand that legal proceedings are now underway between the Red Beat Company and a rival record label in Bangkok concerning this and other similar cases. [via Pattaya City News]

• Survey launched to set up tourist sea route – A delegation left Rach Gia port in southern Kien Giang Province on December 10, starting a trip to survey a sea tourist route linking Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand.

The delegation, including 162 representatives from the three countries’ travel administrations and agencies, will call at tourist sites in Kep, KoKong and Shihanoukville of Cambodia and Thailand’s Trat and Chanthaburi provinces and Pattaya resort city, to assess local tourism potential and then propose orientations to tap the advantages.

The sea tourist route, the first of its kind, is expected to be put into operation in mid-February 2008, said Le Minh Hoang, Director of the Kien Giang Provincial Department of Tourism. [via VietnamNet]

You’ll also be able to embed a music player with songs on your own site, but have some consideration since other websites will be the ones hosting the files.
