Final Comment on American Idol Finale
A final comment on the American Idol finale.
It was a show Barnum & Bailey would have been proud of with a 'supporting' cast notable not for it's quantity but it's quality. Music industry giants like Rihanna, J-Lo and Aerosmith performed in the build up to the big announcement.
The thing that struck me about all this was how ordinary the Idol finalists were made to look by these established stars. Okay, I accept it's a sort of amateur v professional comparison at this stage but the gap is immense.
A number of 'names' were rolled out for duets and Chaka Khan exuded class but two other duets stole the whole show. First Holly Cavanagh teamed up with Jordan Sparks for a rendition of "You'll Never Walk Alone." Has it ever been sung better. Awesome in it's power and passion. Kop take lessons......
Second duet of note and the performance of the night bar none was Jennifer Holliday and Jessica Sanchez singing, "And I'm telling You I'm Not Going." Amazing, amazing, amazing. If you watch anything on Youtube watch this. Not sure how Jessica got to the end without cracking up having to look into Holliday's eyes. Weird. Looked like she'd just been surprised by a 12 incher from behind......
What about the result. Well I reckon Philip Phillip's will make a living but Jessica Sanchez could be a real star. She's only 16 so anything is possible.

New Bars - Soi Buakhao, Pattaya
Had a look around the 2 new bar clusters towards the south end of Soi Buakhao last night, Action Street and the indoor bar area next door whose name escapes me.
Action Street is a bit like Doctor Who's Tardis. From Buakhao there doesn't look to be too many bars but when you walk inside you find many more bars set back and more yet to be built according to one mamasan. It's desperately quiet but said mamsan claimed they were waiting for custom to move over from Soi 7 and Soi 8 when bars start closing there. She claimed she had to find Bt50k a month to cover salaries and rent so hopefully it's not too long before they start getting custom. Action Street could be a pretty good bar area but it badly needs people.
Nameless, the indoor bar area next to Action Street was a surprise and again could be great fun with more customers and staff.
The photo shows the ground and first floor bar areas and apparently there is a basement level too. So three floors of ........
If all the bars were up and running you could probably spend a full evening in here just bouncing from bar to bar. This place has great potential but it needs all the bars staffed and open.
Have to say I hope both areas succeed as they offer something a little different..... what, like beer and girls I hear you say?
Final point. A Heineken in both bar areas was Bt70 so they aren't using cheap beer to attract punters.

Pattaya and passion are synonymous
Guy Kawasaki in his book, "What The Plus", gives his views on the strengths/focus of the Big 3 social networks:
Twitter = Perspectives.
Twitter is great for getting or sending immediate perspectives on news and
events. In other words, if you want to learn that there was an earthquake in Chile before CNN and you like getting updates from Chileans at ground zero, then Twitter is for you. In short, Twitter is for real-time perspectives.
Facebook = People.
Facebook is the way to learn what’s going on in the lives of people you already
know (friends, relatives, and colleagues). It’s great for learning that their cats rolled over, that they went to a great party, or that they had sex, kittens, or children. In short, Facebook is for people.
Google+ = Passions.
Google+ enables you to pursue your passions with people you don’t know. Your fifty friends and family on Facebook likely do not share your passion for photography, but on Google+ you can have a blast with a community of photographers. In short, Google+ is for passions.
Ed - Must admit I hadn't thought of Twitter, Facebook and Google+ in this way, I just thought of them as 3 channels to get the word out. Maybe now I know Google+ = Passions, I might spend more time on there. After all, Pattaya and passion are synonymous surely.........

New P.R. lady for Champagne Go Go
Fresh, an aptly named 18 year old at Champagne who recently signed up from school, will be appearing on advertisements around town to promote Champers. Suspect the girl will benefit more from the ads than the bar!!!!
