The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), in collaboration with the Khao San Road Community, proudly presents the Smile@Khao San Road Festival. Taking place 11th and 12th September 2010, the event starts at 16:00 (4 o'clock pm) and finishes at midnight on both days. By the look at things, this is going to be FUN!!!! It'll take in the whole of Khao San Road and surrounding area, spreading out to Chakkrabong Road and Soi Rambuttri. What's it all about? It's simple… The aim of this festival is to make Thai and foreign tourists happy, and make them SMILE!!!

Khao San Road has a genuinely chilled out atmosphere to enjoy with friends! As a result, the Festival will focus on entertainment and shopping!

To provide the entertainment, some of Thailand's top music names will be in attendance. These include Golf & Mike, Dan Worrawech, Mum Laconic, The Richman Toy, K-Otic and the Singular. Tanao Road (near Khao San Road) will see "indie" and Jazz performed by bands such as Infamous and the Art Floor, while Thailand's leading jazz artists (including Ford Sobchai) will perform on a stage in front of Chanasongkhram Police Station.

A stage on Chakkrabong Road will show Thai Classical performances highlighting Rumwong (Thai classical dance), Rumthad (Thai classical folk singing), Manorah (Southern Thai folk dancing), Pong Lang (a log xylophone band from the northeast of Thailand) and Nang Talung (puppet shadow shows from the south of Thailand).

Alongside the music there will be street shows on Soi Rambuttri, Chakkrabong Road and Khao San Road featuring exhibitions from many of Thailand's leading tourism areas.

The highlight of the festival will be a "Free Hugs" contest, and a special "Hug Thailand" contest, which together offer prizes worth more than one million Baht, including 60 free package tours and 560 free "9 Temple" sightseeing tours designed to allow participants to "make merit" by paying respect to Buddha statues at 9 key Buddhist temples situated along the Chao Phya River.

Another feature of the event will be fine dining on Chakkrabong Road, with a selection of cuisine from the best restaurants in Bangkok's 50 districts. Also expect "grand sales" from local businesses! Festival visitors who buy goods or services from shops in the area that are associated with Smile@Khao San Road will be eligible to enter raffle competitions and visitors who participate in quizzes and other activities get a free "Smile@Khao San Road" t-shirt (2,000 only).

Khao San Road is back to normal - it's safe, laid back, and the place to be. Smile@Khao San Road gives you access to the best the area has to offer, so if you are in Thailand, there are no excuses. Get down there!
