Cancer is No 1 killer in Thailand since 2000

About 300,000 people in Thailand have died from cancer annually since 2000, the Public Health Ministry reported.
"Cancer is the most common cause of death for the past decade," Public Health permanent secretary Paichit Sarachit said on Sunday.
Last year, 55,403 people - 32,060 men and 23,343 women - died of cancer. 53 per cent of them were over 60 years of age while 46 per cent were between 15 and 59 years. About 152 people died of cancer a day, or about six per hour.
Liver and lung cause the most cancer deaths in the country.

Ed. I am not qualified to comment but have a couple anyway:
  • I reckon pesticides are widely used on crops grown in Thailand. A farmer's livelyhood depends on him producting the maximum amount of clean produce. He has little concern for the end consumer.
  • There was an article in the press recently about the dangers of drinking water from plastic bottles heated by the sun. Bottles left in cars being a prime example. This might sound a bit naieve but how are bottles of drinking water delivered around the country. In refridgerated trucks? I think not.
I make a point of washing and even peeling fruit wherever possible. The following chart highlights the produce most prone to pestacide residue.

Now Leeds have got promoted I'm no longer suicidal and watch what I eat and drink......
