Mayor Kunplome's 14 urgent projects for Pattaya

As part of the Mayor's 'Let's Balance Up Pattaya' strategy, the following projects have been classified as urgent:

For sure some of the projects fall in to the 'nice to have' category so they could be easily pushed to the end of the queue. For sure crime, water supply, flood prevention, traffic flow and garbage collection are areas for immediate attention. Much will depend on the budget assigned to Pattaya by the government.

Events Calendar

We've added an events calendar to the Pattaya Rag blog. It's under it's own tab at the top of the blog page.

Just be aware that events starting with >> are carried over from the previous day.

You can now go to the blog and view an ever growing slide show of beautiful Thai girls (Pattaya Rag Girls) or check out the event calendar to see what parties are happening near you.

Public Health Advisory - If you don't live in Thailand then doing either of the above will probably make you suicidal. We therefore recommend you stick to watching Coronation Street and East Enders.

How to wake up hangover free

Some are obvious like drink water and don't mix your alcohols but the others I'll give a try. Notice don't drink is not on the list.
young guy hungover

You know its bound to happen. It’s a Wednesday night and your friends show up and convince you to go out drinking with them. Yes you work the next day, but you only once, right? You also know that when they say “Just a few drinks,” it really means “Let’s go out and see if we can out drink everyone at the club.” Before you indulge in your weekday binge, there’s a few things to do before, during, and after your night out to wake up hangover free.

10 Pin Bowling

Went bowling in Central yesterday and my eyes kept wandering into the gutter and my ball followed suit. I reckon I got my lowest score ever. The 3 guys with me also claimed they registered their lowest ever scores. Just one of those days I guess.

The photo is of a girl bowling in the next lane.....

Buriram to Nang Rong and Phanom Rung

Added to the list of places to visit.
Darkest Isan (where decent thais fear to tread), Part Three
Thailand's greatest ancient monument, the 900 year old Khmer temple complex sitting on top of a volcano with a panoramic view stretching to Cambodia's plains and mountains.
After Buriram where watching paint dry is better than the town's day life (don't mention nightlife) tiny Nang Rung with absolutely no redeeming features whatsoever is a step up in the world. If the word ugly could drawn, planned, paid for, a gang of labourers hired to build it and me forced to go there to see it, it would be called Nang Rung, and I'd still be there going thank God I'm here not in Buriram anymore.
Nang Rong will forever have a special place in my heart reserved for it. You may find this hard to believe but it was the place for the very first time (not wearing a crash helmet) I drove my motorcycle the wrong way up an eight lane highway then mounted the pavement zigzagging in and out of pedestrians and parked outside the 7/11 to buy a beer, previously having drunk two, and all this after missing a U-Turn spot. This manoeuvre is of course part of the traffic police's driving test and, I'm also pretty sure it fulfils section 'A' of the Thai citizenship test too.

3D Premiere Girls

Hot on the heels of this mornings news that an Hong Kong director is filming the first 3D porn movie we have the first 3D condom advert.

I've had a hell of a morning trying to find the 3D glasses that came with the Bangkok Post a couple of Fridays ago. My place looks as though it's been ransacked.

Thai Baht advances

GBP drops to Baht 49
Amplify’d from www.businessweek.com
Thailand’s baht climbed to the strongest level in more than two years on speculation exporters were converting their overseas income to guard against further appreciation in the currency.

“With anticipation of further declines in the dollar, local exporters will rush to sell them, boosting the baht,” said Hideki Hayashi, a global economist at Mizuho Securities Co. in Tokyo. “Some Asian countries may boost interest rates while the U.S. is expected to keep them low, which is supportive of regional currencies.”

The baht appreciated 0.3 percent to 31.74 per dollar as of 9:15 a.m. in Bangkok, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. It earlier touched 31.73, the strongest level since May 2008. The currency may reach 31.7 this month, Hayashi said.

Miss Universe pose leads to criticism

Looks more like Playboy than Miss Universe.....

Pook Look” garners criticisms for the way she has been posing in pictures more then a beauty queen who has been chosen to represent Thailand for the Miss Universe 2010 pageant. A post on her personal Facebook had garnered more attention when “Pook Look” put, “Feeling annoyed. This is the real me.”

Thailand’s first Tune Hotel will open in Pattaya

Tune Hotels.com will open its first hotel in Thailand’s Pattaya resort by February 2012, offering rates as low as US$3 a night for a bare-bone, no-frills room.

Two hotels under the same brand will follow in Bangkok and another in Hat Yai, South Thailand, probably by 2013.

All the hotels, with the exception of the Hat Yai property, will be built from scratch, according to a source close to the developer, Red Planet Hotels Company Limited, a subsidiary Evolution Capital PLC, listed on the Thai stock exchange. In Hat Yai, the company will restore an existing building.

Red Planet executives opted to build from scratch after it became apparent that modifying existing hotel buildings to fit the budget concept was too costly.

Sources close to the company confirmed the Pattaya property will have between 120 to 150 rooms with 450 sq metre of space on the ground floor for a convenience store and shops. Rooms will be 13.2 sq metres in space, slightly more than the developer had estimated when it signed the franchise deal with Tune Hotel.com in late 2009. Tune Hotels stipulates a room size of around 12 sq metres. The hotel site is located on Pattaya Sai 2 Road.

The Thailand properties will offer bare-bone accommodation for a lead-in price of US$3 a night, but guests will need to pay a surcharge to have a TV, refrigerator, telephone and other facilities usually included in a hotel rate. However, the real saving is on the back-of-the house operations that are based on out-sourcing all services to eliminate housekeeping, guest service, laundry, food and beverage and engineering departments. A Tune hotel comes with just four full-time staff per property – two working the day shift and the other two on night duty.

Golf in Vietnam

Danang:

Golf Coast Vietnam is coming alive! That is right with Vietnam's two best courses (Danang Golf Club and Montgomerie Links, Vietnam) right next to each other it is no wonder the China Beach area is being rechristened as Vietnam's golfing oasis. Golfing media are showing up daily to cover the story and golfing legends Greg Norman and Colin Montgomerie themselves have even paid visits to Danang GC and Monty Links, respectively in recent months. Watch out for more developments very soon. In the meantime, we are insisting that every golfer visiting Vietnam make Danang a major part of their Vietnam golf holiday. After all, who would want to miss the "Golf Coast"?

Cualo Golf ResortVinh City: In yet another "How Will It Succeed?" Vietnam golf project, Cualo Golf Resort is open for play near Vinh City in Nghe An Province. A short flight (or very long 4 hour slow drive) from Hanoi the IMG designed course is actually pretty good, albeit mostly flat. Located near a nice beach area Cualo has lots of natural sand areas and native Casuarina pines lining the course which makes for some interesting holes. While Cualo is not ready for golf tourists, it does have potential once this part of Vietnam is more accessible and better developed for tourism. Stay tuned for more updates.

Big Brother, BlackBerrys and Google-Alarm

The news that messaging by BlackBerry (BB) is banned in several countries because the BB encrypts messages probably confirms what we always suspected and that is our phone calls and sms messages are monitored by somebody, somewhere. If you also accept that everything you do on the Internet, such as e-mails, online searches and browsing, is also monitored then you start to see how 'Big Brother' organisations can build up a very detailed profile of you.

It's assumed that government organisations are the major players in this area but let's not forget Google. Google started out with search engines that tracked what you searched for. Unfotunately, that didn't let them know what sites you were visiting so they brought out the Chrome browser and site tracking codes. Unfortunately, if you used Firefox browser they still didn't know what sites you were visiting so they brought out free, hi-speed DNS servers. Then they didn't know what you were doing with your mobile device so they brought out Android OS.

Paranoid? Maybe but then why is there a product in the market-place like Google-Alarm, a Firefox add-on that warns you everytime data is collected from your computer and sent to Google servers. If you too are paranoid then maybe you should check it out.

Footnote: With the spread of smartphones and location based apps, authorities can track you in real-time to within feet of your actual location. The tracking technology used in Will Smith's movie Enemy of the State is pretty much how it is. Looking over your shoulder yet......
