When I first came to Pattaya, you would have to search the open air bars to find really pretty girls and although the top go-go's had their share, the real stars were always the free lancers in the Marine Disco.
Twenty years on the open air bars have improved some but nowhere near as much as the indoor bars. It seems to me that nearly all indoor bars have their share of lookers and not just the top end go-go bars and the standard is on a par with the free lance market. To my eyes, the quantity of quality (qoq) has risen drastically. I see it in the daytimes in supermarkets and malls, top talent wandering around. Admittedly it's often on the arm of an ATM but it still contributes to the qoq count.
Is Pattaya a pussy magnet then? Do young Thai women think the streets here are paved with gold? Paul from Hooty's commented on one of the forums today that 6 new girls walked in to Hooty's looking for jobs just last night, his soft re-opening night. It looks like you don't have to go searching for them up country, they are here, knocking on your door. I suspect the recent closure of a number of rag trade businesses has contributed to the influx but the real reason for the increased qoq may well have nothing to do with the economy, My feeling is it has more to do with what's happening in the villages. Girls working the Pattaya bars and girls with falang boyfriends/husbands are going home to the villages and splashing the cash. Girls never previously tempted by Pattaya think, "I'll have some of that" and before you know it, they are on a bus with their life savings of 500baht and a one way ticket to Pattaya. Sounds reasonable to me and let me state the obvious. Whatever the reasons, I'm not complaining.
Anybody else think the QOQ is up? Anybody got an opinion why?

- Looking for an affordable getaway? Ko Hai and Ko Muk, two tiny islands in the Andaman Sea, offer secluded coves, private beaches and a coastline filled with marine life. Ko Hai, also known as Ko Ngai, has no roads, no addresses, no stores and no ATMs, but it does have four worthy resort-hotels right on the warm sand. The most tasteful are basic -- the rooms have air-conditioning, small refrigerators and bathrooms whose showers are open to the sky. [via CNN.com/travel] Ed. Affordable is a relative term
- A Canadian man alleged to have sexually abused a young boy in Thailand has been arrested in Vancouver, say Thai police. Two Thai police officials told The Canadian Press Friday that 54-year-old Orville Frank Mader had been arrested in Vancouver and would soon be returned overseas to face charges. Details of his arrest were not released. The RCMP could not be reached for comment. The arrest came just one day after police in the Thai beach resort town of Pattaya issued a warrant for Mader’s arrest. Sgt. Maj. Pottaput Kamho said he got word from police in Bangkok that Mader had been arrested some time on Thursday. [via Chronicle Journal]

- A rather attractive woman goes up to the register in an upscale hamburger establishment. She gestures alluringly to a large man who comes over immediately. When he arrives, she seductively signals that he should bring his face close to hers. When he does so, she begins to gently caress his cheek, which is slowly turning a crimson red. "Are you the owner?" she asks, now softly stroking his face with both hands. "No" he replies, "I'm just the manager." "Can you get him for me? I need to speak to him," she asks, running her hands up beyond his ears and into his hair. "I''m afraid I can't," breathes the manager clearly aroused. "He's in the back doing taxes right now. Is there anything I can do?" "Yes, there is. I need you to give him a message." She continues huskily, popping a couple of fingers into his mouth and allowing him to suck them gently. "Tell him" she says "that there is no toilet paper or hand soap in the ladies room."
