It's A Weekend For ST With Softies

I had a wander down Walking Street earlier this evening and there were a good few bars open and serving 'softies'. Music was down low, lights were dimmed but plenty of staff were on hand to service the tourists. It was too early for the indoor establishments so I can't say if they will be a go-going tonight or not. That said, Secrets have posted that they will open as usual but only serve soft drinks so I wouldn't be at all surprised if many of the others do likewise. It could be a weekend for softies and ST/LT so you may remember it for a change.

Bar staff are reporting that they will be again serving alcohol from 6.00pm Sunday which should give the Man U and Liverpool supporters just enough time to get a buzz on before the big kick off.

• Pattaya City Hall have confirmed that there will be a Bali Hai News Year's Eve Countdown Party involving lights, sound, fireworks and many Thai entertainers.

• Soi Six (Yodsak) now has it's own web site with a map of busines se s and ATMs. The plan is to eventually show prices and opening hours. Check it out. In case you lose the link, I've added it under Useful Pattaya Links in the right margin.

• Hotties Club is a coyote dance club situated at the back of the new beer bar complex located almost opposite Mike Shopping Mall on Second Road. Same owners as Honey Pot so if it's half as good as the Pot it will be well worth a visit.

• Director OLIVER STONE is planning to turn Thailand into the new Hollywood, after buying a plot of land to build a studio on. The Platoon filmmaker has been working on the project with producer David Winters, and hopes to attract other stars to move their sets to the south-east Asian country.

A friend of Stone says, "He and David have found some land halfway between Bangkok and Pattaya and a studio is being built for use by the U.S. and British film industry. [via HHE]

• A kindergarten school in Rayong province closed for 11 days starting Friday following an outbreak of hand foot mouth disease. Doctor Wiwat Wiriyakijja, chief public health officer of Rayong, said so far 15 children had fallen ill with the disease.

• Japanese automakers have applied to produce environmentally conscious eco-cars in Thailand, The Nikkei reported Friday. Toyota Motor Corp and Mitsubishi Motors Corp plan to expand production capacity in Thailand and to begin manufacturing about 100,000 units of environmentally-friendly cars every year from 2010. • Paint.NET 3.2 available - most of you know by now that Paint.NET is one of my favourite image and photo editing solutions. Of course it’s free which is part of the reason, but the big reason it ranks high on my list is because it’s basic yet offers some advanced, more powerful editing features. To boot, it’s easy to understand and to use which is important. Yesterday they launched Paint.NET version 3.20 (no beta) with several new features, and of course the typical bug fixes. You can get it one of two ways - if you already have a version of Paint.NET installed, you go go to the Help menu in the program and click “Check for Updates.” If you don’t have it installed, you’ll want to go to www.getpaint.net and download it there.

In version 3.10 which released back in August, they introduced new features like the “soften portrait effect” and the “ink sketch effect” which makes a photo look like it was sketched by someone. Between then and now, they must have been working pretty hard because there are yet more new features to add to the list. Here’s what you’ll find in this final version:

• Choose between a fixed ratio or a fixed size when you use the Rectangle Select tool
• Look for the selection combination mode which is accessible from the toolbar
• “Flood mode” for the Magic Wand and Paint Bucket tool are accessible from the toolbar (continuous or global)
• Effects menu has been reorganized and all effects are classified under sub-menus
• Enhanced “frosted glass” distortion effect
• Enhanced “twist distortion” effect
• and more…

• A lawyer and a blonde are sitting next to each other on a long flight from LA to NY.The lawyer leans over to her and asks if she would like to play a fun game. The blonde just wants to take a nap, so she politely declines and rolls over to the window to catch a few winks. The lawyer persists and explains that the game is really easy and a lot of fun. He explains" I ask you a question, and if you don't know the answer, you pay me $5, and vice-versa." Again, she politely declines and tries to get some sleep. The lawyer, now somewhat agitated, says, "Okay, if you don't know the answer you pay me $5, and if I don't know the answer that you'll ask me, I will pay you $500!." Figuring that since she is a blonde that he will easily win the match. This catches the blonde's attention and, figuring that there will be no end to this torment unless she plays, agrees to the game. The lawyer asks the first question. "What's the distance from the earth to the moon?" The blonde doesn't say a word, reaches in to her purse, pulls out a five dollar bill and hands it to the lawyer.
  

  

  Now, it's the blonde's turn. She asks the lawyer: "What goes up a hill with three legs, and comes down with four?" The
  lawyer looks at her with a puzzled look. He takes out his laptop computer and searches all his references.He taps into the Airphone with his modem and searches the Net and the Library of Congress. Frustrated, he sends E-mails to all his coworkers and friends he knows. All to no avail. Afterover an hour, he wakes the blonde and hands her $500. The blonde politely takes the $500 and turns away to get back to sleep. The lawyer, who is more than a little miffed, wakes the blonde and asks, "Well, so what IS the answer!?" Without a word, the blonde reaches into her purse, hands the lawyer $5, and goes back to sleep.
