Urine Test - Seems like common sense

I work, they pay me. I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit. In order to earn that pay cheque, I work on a rig for a drilling contractor. I am required to pass a random urine test for drugs and alcohol, with which I have no problem.

What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test. Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a benefits cheque because I have to pass one to earn it for them? Please understand that I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do on the other hand have a problem with helping someone to sit on their arse drinking booze, smoking dope and generally taking all kinds of drugs. Could you imagine how much money the government would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a benefit cheque?

Ed. This proposal might be a bit 'tongue in cheek' but it strikes me as an idea worth considering.

I would also take it a step further and make ID Cards compulsory for benefit claimants and dependants. Claimants and dependents would have to have their finger prints taken to get an ID Card. Law abiding claimants will have no problem with this process. However, claimants with multiple identies or with with fake dependants will have to find other ways to cheat the system.

Now if we could only come up with a way to stop politicians fiddling their expenses we'd be quids in!!!!!

If you like your footie Part 2

Yahoo! has announced that they have acquired the rights to show highlights from the English Premier League. With a contract that stretches up to 2013, web-surfing footy fans will be able to watch highlights from every single match as of this coming August.

Heading over to Yahoo.co.uk at the beginning of next season will allow you to view weekend match highlights from midnight on a Sunday, or from midnight on the same day for mid-week games.

If you like your footie

The Times is running a couple of good articles on Premier League players today. They are:
As you'd guess, the choices are subjective, contentious, etc., etc. The readers comments at the end make good reading.

Which category does the photoed player belong in do you think?

Thailand's red shirt protests - update

One soldier is feared dead and at least 10 people were injured in violent clashes between Thai troops and red-shirted protesters in a suburb of Bangkok.

Along Vibhavadi-Rangsit road, riot squads fired into the air to push protesters back but several tried to remove the razor wire, prompting troops to level their rifles and shoot directly at protesters who fled into oncoming traffic. Police huddled behind riot shields, while soldiers wielding rifles took up positions behind concrete pylons. A heavy afternoon downpour halted the fighting, at least temporarily.

The confrontation was chaotic and at one point security forces fired on a group of troops riding toward them on motorbikes in what appeared to be an accident, although some members of the security forces have been accused of siding with the protesters. At least four motorbikes crashed and one soldier was carried away on a stretcher, bleeding profusely from the head. Several others from the group threw their hands in the air.

"We brought force out to stop them. At this point, society finds it unacceptable to have protesters traveling in a motorcade like this," Sansern said. "We try our best to prevent losses."

Sad news for Thailand

The U.K. Government has advised that Britons should avoid all but essential travel to Bangkok was extended to the whole of Thailand late Tuesday because of "increasing tension" in the country.
Tuesday night's statement from the Foreign Office said it had changed its travel advice "to advise against all but essential travel to the whole of Thailand".

The Foreign Office website said "substantial numbers of troops" were deployed in central Bangkok in the early hours of today (Wednesday) and there had been protests and violent incidents in other parts of Thailand including popular tourist destinations such as Pattaya, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Ayuthaya in the past week.

Iron Man 2 Opens this weekend

I enjoyed the first movie so I was quite looking forward to seeing '2'.

Sadly, the early reviews are anything but encouraging. The following is from the Daily Mirror:
Given the strength of part one, the sequel is not just a terrific failure but a terrific disappointment.

More reviews will be available online tomorrrow but regardless of content, I suspect I'll still go see '2' to form my own opinion.

Men can now stop sex ending prematurely with £25 Priligy pill

The first pill that prevents premature ejaculation is launching in the UK tomorrow.

The drug could provide relief to tens of thousands of men afflicted with the embarrassing condition.  It is estimated nearly one in three British men suffer from the sexual problem at some point in their lives.

Medical trials revealed taking just one tablet one to three hours before sex helped men to last three times as long during lovemaking.

Read more at the Daily Mail

Ed. Isn't £25 a lot to pay to go from 1min to 3mins???? That's £12.50 for each additional minute...... Over Bt1,000 in real money. Amazingly, the pills come in packs of 3 so you actually have to fork out £76 for a pack of three 30mg tablets. I'm told by the Rag's roving reporter that you can get the pressurre released down Soi 6 for half the price of a pill. Somehow, I can't see a guy saying to his wife hold that position, I'll be back in 30mins.... Surely, a more realistic and certainly cheaper solution for a quick finish is Viagra. With 'V' onboard, you just motor through the quick finish for for rounds 2 and 3..... or am I missing something?

Update on FIFA World Cup in Thailand

The rumour mill has it that the Thai TV channels will be showing World Cup matches. Not sure though if match commentaries will be in Thai of English.

Slightly better news is the South African Supersport channels will not be switched off in Thailand until September 1st. Bars with this feed should do very good business during the World Cup.

Pattaya Rugby Festival to be held next weekend

The Pattaya 10's Rugby Tournament is now 10 years old and the 10th anniversary of the event, now known as the Chris Kays Memorial Tournament, will take place from May 1-2. The tournament was renamed in memory of the former Pattaya Panthers captain, who was tragically killed in the Bali bombing in October 2002.

Once again the tournament will be staged at the Horseshoe Point Resort.

There will be a 10s tournament for men and the Junior Division (U-18), which was a success last year, will again feature schools from the provinces and will be expanded to further help the Thailand Rugby Union's development of the game.

There will be 16 teams in the main competition and there will be a very strong local influence with former champions the Southerners and the Old Bangkok Bangers and their Colts as well as crowd favourites the Bangkok Japanese.

Action begins at 9.30am on May 1 and concludes around 5pm on May 2.

A night on the town....

I'm just home from a night on the town and all I can say is it is a mans paradise. I can't say 'single' mans paradise cause that doesn't account for the multitude of married men out there misbehaving. I could definately retire on a few photos....

All I can say is I can't remember when I last saw so many beautiful girls in the bars. Every where we went tonight there were stunners
After thought, cause I've chinned a bucket of Long Island Ice Tea..... Beach Club is buzzing again..... Put it back on your list of places to visit. What's Up maybe not...... Pooooooor.

Angry and stranded, 350 British tourists cause near-riot at Bangkok airport

Hundreds of angry and frightened Britons left stranded in Thailand by the volcanic dust cloud today were battling for plane seats out of the country's capital.

Many were left to sleep on cardboard mats in Bangkok airport after their money ran out.

Some were also without a meal or roof over their heads because non-European airlines - including Thailand's main air carrier - declined to offer customers hotel accommodation which must be offered by air carriers under EU regulations.

Confession - I'm a fan of American Idol

Yes I'm a fan and I've watched pretty much every season since it started. Why am I coming out of the Idol closet now? Well, this week, for the first time ever, one of the contestants put on a performance that I'd actually pay money to see. She sang a song I'd pay money to own.

I've attached it here to see if gets you in the same way. One thing's for sure, the lady in question, Crystal Bowersox, is heading for a career in music whether she wins this seasons title or not.

Goose's Fish & Chips

I ate in Goose's Fish & Chip restaurant this week and loved it. Notice I called it a restaurant not chip shop. Goose's is more like a mini Harry Ramsden's or an upmarket tea shoppe in York. Aghh Betty's.....  Modern decor, immaculate white table clothes, courteous and helpful staff and good food. What more could a Yorkie ask for? No, that's not on the menu.......

You have a choice of local fish, (Bt195), Atlantic Cod, (Bt295) or Atlantic Haddock (Bt495 - I think). I ordered the cod and it was a good choice.

When my meal arrived, the cod filled half the dinner plate and came with chips, peas, (had to be mushy for me), tartar sauce and a slice of bread. Everything was freshly cooked, no 'flashing' the chips here. The batter on the fish was perfect. Light and crispy. The meal overall, delicious.

With a pot of tea thrown in, the meal cost me Bt335 and because of the setting, the service and the quality of the food, it was money well spent.

Goose's does more than fish/chips. I noticed pies and bacon sandwiches on the menu but I don't think I could go there for anything but fish. If the exchange rate improves, (fat chance), then I may one day treat myself to an haddock but until then, gimme a Goose's cod.

The best fish and chips I've eaten in Thailand. There, I've said it.

Goose's is between Soi 7 and Soi 8 on 2nd Road. If you are in a car, then you could park in Central and walk the short distance from there to Goose's. It worked for me!!

The Girl in the Franck Ribery Sex Scandal - Zahia Dehar

You've probably read about the sex scandal involving Frank Ribery and a teenage hooker, well here's the hooker. I can see the judge asking for her phone number!! No, I'm not making light of this but the kid looks about 30 to me. No matter what the deal is it should involve conscenting individuals of legal age. If Ribery has cradle snatched then he'll no doubt pay the approprite price. That said, he's hardly Gary Glitter.
Won't do much for his value on the transfer market!!!!!

Pattaya Bars - Quiet!

Just recovering from a night on the town and about my only memory is how quiet it was in the bars. I was expecting the town to be packed with Bangkokians escaping Red Shirts and looking for 3 extra days of Songkran. How wrong could I be. I was the only customer in some bars and I'm talking off Walking Street bars. Sure, some of the stars have gone home for Songkran but there's still more than enough talent around to keep the U.S. Navy happy.

If last night is anything to go by then maybe Pattaya's extended Songkran is a turn off rather than a turn on for tourists and Bangkokians alike. I know more than a few residents leave town for the week so I guess they're voting with their feet! If Pattaya hotels are also quiet then maybe it's time for City Hall to review it's policy of holding a week long Songkran. I can only hope.

For the record, I enjoy Songkran but 1 or 2 days is enough for me. I don't need to get wet every time I go out for a  week. How people going to work in Pattaya during Songkran Week get on I just don't know.

Of course, what mongers were out last night had their pick of the field. There's always an upside to life in Pattaya!!

Time For Top Thai Talent (TTTT) - Yo

Bangkok's Lesbo Hot Spots

Finding a gay bar in Bangkok is incredibly easy. But a gay bar exclusively for women? Not so much. Many proudly proclaim that Bangkok has a great LGBT scene, but really, when it comes to venues to dance, drink and mingle, Bangkok is all about the G scene. The boys and their boys. But don't despair, there are a couple of places for us ladies to check out too.

E-Fun. Extreme fun for Ladies

My pick of the two (yep, there are only two) is E-Fun. It's smack bang in the middle Royal City Avenue and is a neat little place to chill out with your lady pals. The outdoor couches are great for bigger groups and a perfect place to share a bottle of whiskey, down a beer or enjoy a cocktail. It'll set you back 1,800 baht for a bottle of Johnny Red, 100 baht for a bottle of Federbrau and 160 baht for a gin and tonic. You can get away with bringing your male friends to E-Fun -- as long as they remain outside. Inside it's dark but cosy. Table service is efficient and friendly and the international tunes are mixed by the only male in the house (they couldn't find a chick to mix?). At around 11pm, the live music kicks in beginning with an acoustic duo playing Thai pop. As the night gets going, it's not uncommon to see patrons (after a good dose of whiskey) up behind the microphone for some impromptu karaoke.
E-Fun. Extreme fun for Ladies: 21/135-136 Royal City Avenue (Opposite Overture), Bangkok; +66 (0) 8177 78018;www.efunbangkok.com; open 8pm-2am
Zeta
Just up the street is the other all-girl gay club in Bangkok: the longer running Zeta. You will find that your male buddies are not welcome inside and there isn't an outside drinking area for them to wait while you head inside for a dance. So if you're heading to Zeta, leave the blokes at home (or send them to Silom).
Every now and then they'll have a theme night so you might get stung with a 100 baht entrance fee, but it'll get you a beer once you're inside. The drinks are all similar in price to E-Fun and the shelves of half-full whiskey bottles that run the hallway indicate that whiskey is the drink of choice here. You can hold your leftovers on the shelf for your next visit (bottles starting at 1,800 baht). If you arrive too early, you will be outnumbered by wait staff, so time your night so you arrive no earlier than 11pm, push for midnight to be safe. By then, the live band (Mister Sister) will have started pelting out some Thai pop (plus some Gloria Gaynor to keep the handful of foreigners entertained) and the young Thai Tom-Dee crowd will start to pile through the door. It gets crazy busy on weekends, so if heaving crowds in confined spaces is not your thing, you might prefer to stick with E-Fun.
Zeta: 29/67-69 Royal City Avenue, Rama 9 road, Bangkok; +66 (0) 2203 0994; open 8pm-2am
Bangkok Lesbian monthly parties
If you are looking for more than just a boogie on a crowded dance floor, you might want to consider hitting one of the Bangkok Lesbian monthly parties. Cee Webster (an American who has been living in Thailand for almost four years) manages the website www.bangkoklesbian.com and each month she organises a women only party that offers ladies an opportunity to meet and network with like minded Bangkokians. Sign up on the website to receive the latest details about the next event. Visit www.bangkoklesbian.com for more on the latest parties.

There is a club for ladies opposite Hollywood Disco in north Pattaya but the name escapes me.

Best Burgers in Bangkok

Triple O's by White Spot - A Canadian chain restaurant. Triple O's by White Spot serves not only the best burgers in Bangkok but also the best chicken sandwiches too. Burgers and sandwiches are served piping hot, on a tray, with the french fries on  the side stacked in a paper cup. It's not just the burgers that make the dining experience though, it's also the fresh bread rolls they're stacked on. Flaky on the outside, they're soft and moist on the inside and just about the perfect burger bun. Toppings too are fresh with a fair few choices. Most of Triple O's burgers and sandwiches come in sets with an average burger, french fries and a coke priced at 200 baht.
Triple O's by White Spot is in Central World Plaza mega mall. It's on the top floor right next to the Gourmet Market, tucked away behind a Buddha ice cream shop.

Chokchai Steakhouse - Chokchai Steakhouse is owned by Chokchai Farms and uses a 'dry aging method' with their beef (it's aged for 30 days), which leaves it succulent, moist and delicious. This too translates into the beef burgers that are just about the juiciest you've ever had. Try the Chokchai Steak Burger, with thick french fries and a coke. The burger and fries are served separately so the prices aren't cheap - 160 baht for the burger, if you get the one with all the fillings, and another 80 baht for the fries. For the quality of the beef, the perfect fries and also for the western-style ambiance complete with waiters dressed as cowboys, you can't beat it. Chokchai Steakhouse in Bangkok is located on the first floor of the Prasanmit Plaza building at 45 Sukhumvit, Soi 23.

The Garage Burger and Grill - The Garage not only serves amazing burgers but they serve lots of them - so many choices of style of burger, in fact, it's hard to choose.Prices too at The Garage Burger and Grill are fair. Portions are large as the burgers are huge (double the size of Triple O's) so with an average price of 215 baht for a burger that comes with fries, coleslaw and pickles on the side, it's a good deal.
The Garage Burger and Grill is on the second floor of All Seasons Place on Wireless Road, near the Conrad Hotel.

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the bars.........

Tens of thousands of women warned their breast implants could explode
The best-selling silicone implant made by the French firm Poly Implant Prothese (PIP), are thought to be twice as likely to rupture.Nearly fifty thousands women in the UK have been warned by health chiefs that their breast implants could EXPLODE.

A government health agency is urging women with this type of implant to contact their plastic surgeons to consider having the implants removed.
They run the risk of developing toxic shock syndrome or gangrene if the implants explode.
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency has also ordered cosmetic surgeons to stop using these implants.
It follows a nation-wide ban in France of the best-selling implant after it found the implants had been filled with a silicone gel with a composition different from that approved since 2001.
They are now carrying out urgent testing to see if the unapproved material is safe.
Dr Susanne Ludgate, from the MHRA, said: 'Clinicians should not implant these devices and they should quarantine any stock.
'Patients who have concerns about their PIP silicone gel-filled breast implants should contact their breast implant surgeon.'

Beach Road Closed for Fashion Show

On one of the busiest weekends of the year for Pattaya, the Beach Road was closed from Pattaya Central to almost Walking Street for a fashion show. The cat-walk was erected on the road itself.

Chaos resulted as little notice appears to have been given for the closure and traffic caught on the northern stretch of the Beach Road when the southern end was closed was at a stand still and it must have taken hours for them to get clear.

The road will be closed again tonight (Saturday) and tomorrow so stay well clear of the Beach Road after 6.00pm if you can.

Thailand and FIFA World Cup Coverage - None as yet!

With just 62 days to the start of the FIFA World Cup in South Africa it would appear that UBC have not paid for the rights to broadcast World Cup matches and neither have any of the Thai TV channels.
If you think the large satellite dish system for picking up South African channels is the answer then you can forget it. This service will be shutdown on 21st April.
Our only hope is somebody like Beer Chang comes to the rescue and finances the rights for Thai TV channels to broadcast the games in Thailand. I promise to drink more Chang, honest!
