Another Unfortunate Connection

Briton, Steven Wright, who faces a life sentence for murdering five women in Suffolk, had visited Pattaya in the 1980's.

Quote:

His appetite for prostitutes took him from Thailand to the streets of Norwich and eventually Ipswich.

In the 1980s, Wright was working as a steward on the QE2 cruise liner when he was captured on film in Pattaya, Thailand in the BBC television documentary Whicker's World.

The television images show a young woman clasping her hands around Wright's neck and pulling him close for a kiss.

Alan Whicker's commentary describes Pattaya as the new Havana "where every sailor dreams of coming to rest and relax".

  • Managed to watch a couple of DVDs this week that I've wanted to see for a while and both were good copies!

First up was "No Country For Old Men" which is the winner of awards for the 'best movie of the year'; 'best screenplay of the year'; 'best director' and 'best supporting actor'. It's a Coen Brothers movie with a touch of Tarentino in it's quirky characters and quirky dialogue. It's edge of the seat stuff in places and totally engrossing. Thoroughly enjoyed it but be warned. It ends as if they ran out of money or scriptwriters. Regardless, this is one not to miss.

The second movie was "The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford' and the title tells you all you need to know about the movie. It's long and boring. I'm a fan of Westerns but this one was wasted on me. It's not about train/bank robberies and gun fights but James' relationship with Ford. The movie tries to get inside their heads but all it succeeded in doing for me was portraying both characters as if they were the products of too much inbreeding in the James and Ford clans. Pity they didn't run out of money about 90min in. One to miss.

  • Web application FeedJournal turns your RSS feed(s) of choice into a newspaper-formatted PDF. You can either enjoy the newspaper-ness of the electronic PDF on your computer, or you can print out the paper for some offline, dead-tree reading. FeedJournal probably isn't the best solution for feeds that generally have shorter items but longer articles fit really well in the FeedJournal layout. FeedJournal is free to use, requires registration with the site. [via LifeHacker]

  • Customise Firefox sidebars - one of the areas that I’ve always felt Firefox has lacked in is sidebar configurability. Other browsers, such as Opera, come with way more sidebar options out-of-the-box making it easy to throw a sidebar onto any side of the browser. The beauty of Firefox, however, is that there are plenty of extensions to solve any complaints.

We sifted through over a hundred different extensions that deal with sidebars in Firefox, and handpicked three of them that offer outstanding customisation. Things like adding multiple sidebars, undocking the sidebars, and much more.

1. MultiSidebar

MultiSidebar is a great example of the functionality I would love to see Mozilla incorporate into the browser by default. Once installed you can right-click on the header of any sidebar and have it open on the left, right, top, or bottom side of the browser. So if you want your bookmarks open on the right side, and your history open on the left side it’s a piece of cake.

The best part is MultiSidebar remembers your options for the next time you go to open a particular sidebar, and that saves a lot of headaches. It even works great with the websites that you’ve setup to open in the sidebar.

2. All-in-One Sidebar

The All-in-One Sidebar is pretty much what the name says it is. It’s a highly-configurable extension that will let you place one “almighty” sidebar on either the left or right side of the browser. You can then add icons to the slim toolbar located next to the sidebar so that you can easily switch between the different sidebars that are available. One of my favourite features, however, has got to be the quick access to your downloads and extensions.

This also works well for those of you who are trying to conserve your precious screenspace. That *really* thin bar along the left side serves as a quick way to collapse the sidebar, and it can be set to expand the sidebar when you hover over it with your mouse.

3. Ez Sidebar

Sometimes it is nice being able to undock the sidebar from the browser for one reason or another. Personally what I like to do is open up my bookmarks in the sidebar, undock them from the browser, and align the window along the left side of my monitor. That space on my computer is, for the most part, reserved solely for my bookmarks. By doing that I can have extremely fast access to any bookmark no matter what application I’m in.

This is all made possible because of Ez Sidebar which provides docking and undocking capabilities for the Firefox sidebar:

The other thing that is really cool about this is that you can add “panels” which is equivalent to setting a website to open in the sidebar. Using Ez Sidebar to do this is nice for two reasons: it’s a much faster process and doesn’t clutter up your bookmarks. [via CyberNotes]

  • DEAR DIARY: Day 1

All packed for the cruise ship - all my sexiest dresses and make-up. Really excited.

DEAR DIARY: Day 2

Entire day at sea, beautiful and saw whales and dolphins. Met the Captain today - seems a very nice man.

DEAR DIARY: Day 3

At the pool today. Also some shuffle boarding and hit golf balls off the deck. Captain invited me to join him at his table for dinner. Felt honoured and had a wonderful time. He is very attractive and attentive.

DEAR DIARY: Day 4

Won $800.00 in the ship's casino. Captain asked me to have dinner with him in his own cabin. Had a luxurious meal complete with caviar and champagne. He asked me to stay the night but I declined. Told him I could not be unfaithful to my husband.

DEAR DIARY: Day 5

Pool again today, got sunburnt, went inside to drink at piano bar for rest of day. Captain saw me, bought me several large drinks. Really is charming. Again asked me to visit his cabin for the night. Again I declined. He told me if I didn't let him have his way with me he would sink the ship. I was shocked.

DEAR DIARY: DAY 6

Today I saved 1600 lives. Twice.
