RoomAtlas is an interactive hotel map that does a pretty good job of locating hotels across the world. The reason why this site may do a better job than other such mashups is the database, which it sources from reliable sites like Expedia and Hotels.com. Plus there are reviews from TripAdvisor which let you choose the best hotels. You can search by country, city or address, and by currency (US Dollars or British Pounds). Once you hit the search button, you get a map showing hotel symbols on a map where each symbol has a different color according to the hotel’s room rate. Search results can be filtered by amenities, availability, star rating and price. Click on a hotel symbol to get more details, check availability and book it.

MakeUseOfEd. This looks good but I can't tell how competitive the rates are. The budget hotels are colour coded so that's a start. The image shows RoomAtlas' offerings in Pattaya.
