Call for airport link’s early operation

The government should start operation of the airport link as soon as possible as it will help boost the tourism sector, Thongyoo Supphawitthayakorn, a member of the Association of Thai Travel Agents (ATTA), said on Thursday.

“It is not possible that the number of foreign arrivals in 2009 will reach 14 million as targeted by the Tourism Authority of Thailand. The figure of foreign tourists visiting Thailand this year could be about 11 million at the maximum”, he said.

The political turmoil had driven foreign tourists to visit other neighboring countries, such as Vietnam, Cambodia and China.

Ed. Surely the airport link will only be of benefit to the backpacker to 3* visitor. Won't the tourists ATTA really wants be in airconditioned limos?

Interesting the foreign tourist target for the whole country is 11mill when Pattaya is aiming for 5mill. Okay, Pattay's number my include local visitors but that's a lot of local visitors when Thai families appear to be favouring Hua Hin for it's cleaner image.
