Stand out lines from Part 4 of this 'cop' show were:
- Thai roads are deadly
- Thailand is top of the league for most dangerous holiday destinations
- Thailand has a poor track record on health and safety
Don't know how the program is being received in Bravo land but I found Part 4 to be just more of the same. Yawn.....
The Marine Disco in the 1980's was without rival. It was the only farang after hours place in town and was home to some of the prettiest Thai ladies I've ever seen. It still had the sunken dancefloor which meant you could see every girl on the dance floor from either bar. Great design which I'm surprised hasn't been replicated elswhere. Sadly the Marine's design was structurally unsound. The sunken dancefloor was the ceiling of the beer bars (chicken shack) below. Although supported by pillars from below much of the dance floor was between the pillars and therefore unsupported. Alarm bells rang when the ceiling viewed from the beer bars developed a spider's web of cracks which couldn't be seen in the Marine itself for the wooden dance floor. The current false floor was installed on supports that sit directly above the pillars. Disaster averted but for me being vertically challenged, much of the Marine's appeal went with the sunken dancefloor.Anyway, to the point of the post. If you hark back to the 'golden age' of the Marine then you'll know this Ward Brothers track. It was a Marine anthem and much loved by the girls at the time. It's a track that has completely disappeared over time. Not sure why cause it's a cracker. Enjoy. (Note the tracks clipped to reduce the size from 4mb to 1.5mb)
I hummed the first 16 seconds or so of part of the song – no words whatsoever – just straight humming. I was absolutely convinced there was no way that this application would be able to recognize the song without a single line of lyrics. When I was done I clicked on “Click to Stop” and waited for the results. This is what came up.
The top “guess” was a perfect match. Unbelievable. via MakeUseOf.com I tried humming a Thai song next and the site crashed. Only joking. I suspect the service will only work for “mainstream – POP-RnB/Rock/Classic Music” genres but you'll have to suck it and see. Well, whistle it and see.....Another neat feature of Midomi is you can record your own cover of a song and upload it for Midomi's community to vote on. Just click on the “Studio” menu option at the top of the Midomi page and off you go. The next American Idol....

Whether you find out your daughter’s starring in hardcore pornography, your wife used to be a man, or your dad walked in on you and a seventy-year old transvestite, (Roy are you over it yet?) – there’s a commonly accepted reaction-protocol.
After you’ve cried like a little baby, smashed your head against the wall and moved to another town, you want to tell someone. It’s because you realise the ‘uniqueness’ of your situation, or just want to wail in self-pity, that you need to share the experience.
There are sites that allow you to vent these experiences. To tell them to other people, and demonstrate how much your life sucks — it’s therapeutic. In complete anonymity of course — otherwise you’d have to switch towns again. One of the best sites is:
FMyLife (FML as a double abbreviation) was launched late 2008, and quickly turned in an internet phenomena. It’s a place where you can share stories of your life, always starting with ‘Today,’ and ending with ‘FML’. Thousands of horrible recollections have been gathered on this site, some worse than others, but none pleasant.
Go to MakeUseOf.com for the full article.
Ed. I suspect FML stories from Pattaya would consist of three words 'Today', Katoey' and 'FML'. What else do we have to complain about? Maybe we should start a rival site named IFingLoveMyLife. It could be great therapy for FML people to read what life can be like when you get out of the rut.The one entry on FMyLife from Thailand reads:
Today, I went out with this girl I really liked and she came back to my place. Things were heating up and we ended up having sex and I was on top. I was really into it and in the middle of it she held up her wrist and said "oh, look at the time, I gotta get home". She wasn't wearing a watch. FML

As of this writing, there are about 280 torrent trackers added on the list and about 200 of them are active – some are probably shut down by the enemies of P2P sharing like RIA.via Online Tech Tips

In recent months there has been a spate of crimes involving foreign suspects - bank robberies, jewellery thefts, house break-ins, purse-cutting and even kidnapping. The foreign criminals are only adding salt to the wounds of the locals already suffering from the crimes committed by their compatriots. Many cases have been reported in tourist cities like Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket.

The number of foreign tourists visiting Thailand over the first eight months of this year went down 14.1 per cent from the same period last year to only 8.9 million, deputy spokesman of the Democrat Party, Atthawit Suwanphakdee, said on Saturday.
Mr Athhawat attributed the declining to impacts of the Songkran riots by the anti-government red-shirts in April and the pandemic of the A (H1N1) flu virus.
However, he was confident that the situation of the tourism sector will improve in the fourth quarter of the year as the number of foreign arrivals is increasing.
He called on both the red and yellow-shirt people groups to think of the country and refrain from rallies that could worsen the country’s ailing economy.

I think the Pattaya Ghost hit the nail on the head when he blogged something to the effect that the director must have been dreaming if he thought he could do a 'cops' series in Thailand without making the country look bad. My words not PG's, (he says it better), but the message is roughly the same.
The government should start operation of the airport link as soon as possible as it will help boost the tourism sector, Thongyoo Supphawitthayakorn, a member of the Association of Thai Travel Agents (ATTA), said on Thursday.
“It is not possible that the number of foreign arrivals in 2009 will reach 14 million as targeted by the Tourism Authority of Thailand. The figure of foreign tourists visiting Thailand this year could be about 11 million at the maximum”, he said.
The political turmoil had driven foreign tourists to visit other neighboring countries, such as Vietnam, Cambodia and China.
via Bangkok Post
Ed. Surely the airport link will only be of benefit to the backpacker to 3* visitor. Won't the tourists ATTA really wants be in airconditioned limos?
Interesting the foreign tourist target for the whole country is 11mill when Pattaya is aiming for 5mill. Okay, Pattay's number my include local visitors but that's a lot of local visitors when Thai families appear to be favouring Hua Hin for it's cleaner image.

Pattaya City targets 5 million visits, this year, made up of a mix of 30% Thai and 70% international tourists. Based on that estimate the city would earn Bt45,000 million in revenue from tourism.
Meanwhile, the city claims it welcomed 5.5 million visitors in 2008 generating around Bt48,000 million. This year saw a decline to 2 million visitors since the beginning of the year. The mayor has only four months (September through to December) to pick up 3.5 million visits to reach his estimate.
The city authorities also announced a project to improve and landscape the beach over the next 13 months.
Ed - The Beach Road to be dug up again by the looks of thinks and an average of 900,000 visits a month required for the Mayor to hit his target. That when October and early November are traditionally very quiet indeed. Fairy tale stuff.
The one comment posted with this article was hardly inspiring and I quote:
There is nothing Pattaya can do to change this perception, because it is the total reality of a tawdry seaside knockshop run by crooks and peopled by their runners. You are not actually allowed, as a foreigner, to enter Pattaya if you do not have several, badly done tattoos and also think football is a cultural pursuit. You also have to be an alcoholic, wife beater, dole benefits scammer and all round tweeter. Otherwise, it is a lovely spot.
I don't understand what all the fuss is about. Somebody cheated in sport, so what. Get over it.I mean, the people we entrust to run the country (UK) are cheating on their expenses and no drama. No fine, no warning, no dismissals, no prison sentences. Where's the outrage over the fact that elected officials in the highest offices in the land are fiddling their expenses. Shamelessly so. It seems that they didn't understand the small print on what they could and couldn't claim for. These are the people running the country for feck sake.Britain's where it is today because it's been sold out by politicians for at least the last 30 years. I reckon the easiest politicians to 'buy' are British ones. You don't know how much it hurts me to say that. Now back to F1. Clearly Renault are 'too big to fail' or they'd have been kicked out of the sport. Their actions brought a sport already in disrepute into disrepute. How can race winners be de cided by the stewards after the race. The TV companies should stop televising the race and broadcast the stewards inquiry after the race. The big issue is not 'crashgate' but whether F1 remains a sport. It has less credibility than wrestling so I have my doubts. Apologies to wrestling fans.

Is this purge timed to coincide with the PM's visit to the U.S. so he can say he is taking action or is it just another money making scam for the BIB. Must note to leave Tuk Com with discs in my undies in future.......

Now regardless of the rights and wrongs of the whole messy issue the last thing the Thai tourist industry needs right now is more political strife. With reports that HRH is not in the best of health means that things could go from bad to worse very quickly.
The 3* market will be okay as their customers will continue to come to Thailand regardless of the political situation. It's the 5* market that diverts to calmer waters. The high end tourists who's money benefits all aspects of the industry: hotels; spas; shops; tours; restaurants. Three star tourists more often know their way around and spend their money on budget food, budget drink and possibly budget women. Let's hope for peaceful times. Ed.

A Thai video production company involved in the filming of alleged extortion of foreigners by a Phuket jet ski operator is to be prosecuted for sending the recordings abroad for broadcasting without permission.
Wanasiri Morakul, director of the Thailand Film Office which comes under the Tourism and Sports Ministry, yesterday said police had traced the tapes to a company called Black Sheep Productions.
She said the managers of the company, which had produced the Big Trouble In Thailand series for Bravo All News station in England, admitted to holding the copyright for the recordings.
Ms Wanasiri said normal videos made by Thais do not require prior approval from the ministry's Office of Tourism Development.
But the people responsible for the Big Trouble In Thailand series, which has been a big hit on YouTube, had violated Article 34 of the motion picture law by not having the contents examined by a Tourism and Sports Ministry film committee before they were broadcast abroad.
The company's managers could face 12 months in jail and/or a fine of up to a million baht.
The fallout from BTIT goes on and on and on.
At the centre of it all was one Sheyi Emmanuel Adebayor (not sure why he dropped the first name - as acronyms go it's hardly in the same league as US philosopher Norman O. Brown).
To be involved in one controversial incident is a little daft, but two is really taking the biscuit, the bottle, the stool and the numerous other objects that were hurled towards him as the Manchester City striker celebrated his goal in front of the incensed Arsenal fans.
Then there was the Van Persie stamp and the subsequent charge of violent conduct which was "reluctantly accepted" by City. Presumably in the same manner Kate Moss reluctantly accepted she might have a penchant for the white stuff after being caught red-handed on camera.

The third programme in an eight part series made by Vera for the Bravo Channel goes out next Monday and is being edited to include the arrest.

For me, the definitive track might be the biggest hit of the year or it might be a piece of music that many readily identify with that year. A Christmas hit or a charitable "We Are The World" fall into this latter category. I recognise this is an entirely subjective (and self indulgent?) exercise but it is my blog!! With each year's selection I will post a link to a list of the most popular tracks of that year. If you don't like my choice check the list and let me know what your choice would be.
I hope all years won't be as tough as 63. To see what I mean take a look at my short list:
- Cliff Richard - Summer Holiday
- Chiffons - He's So fine
- Ronettes - Be My baby
- Patsy Kline - Crazy
- Bob Dylan - Blowin' In The Wind
- Crystals - Then He Kissed Me
- Bob & Earl - Harlem Shuffle
- Lesley Gore - It's My Party
- Beach Boys - Surfin' USA
- Beatles - (Any 1 from 7)
- Gerry & The Pacemakers - You'll Never Walk Alone
- Kyu Sakamoto - Sukiyaki
But then what about Gerry and The Pacemakers, "You'll Never Walk Alone" from the 1945 hit musical Carousel. A UK No 1 hit, a hit for half a dozen other artists and still an anthem over 40 years later in soccer grounds all around Britain.
None of the above. My choice is Bob Dylan's maybe protest song, "Blowin' In The Wind". The song was inducted into the Grammy Hall Of Fame in 1999 and was ranked #14 in Rolling Stone Magazine's list of the "500 Greatest Songs Of All Time". This makes it the highest ranking song from 1963 in the list so who am I to argue.
Go to SOSBY 1963 for a list of the most popular tracks.
Note: The release years I'm showing for tracks may differ from your records. Might be due to differing US, UK release dates or I might just be wrong.......

If you are a western 'baby boomer' then this track will surely transport you back through time to the late 60's. It doesn't matter if it is your thing, the haunting harmonica evokes a time and place as strongly as any piece of music from the period. For post baby boomers, it is the soundtrack from the movie of the same name. Enjoy.
Adebayor is a foolish man, as stupid as the so called fans he raced the length of the field to confront. They deserve each other. The face of British football is not pretty. It is ugly, dislocated with hate. Even in repose it manages to remain unattractive. The language of the game is foul. Listen to the chants, the sentiments being expressed. The game is as witless as it is lawless and run by people who appear to be clueless. I don’t see any way it will change. A clown like Adebayor is not a misfit in today’s game. He wallows in it.
Ever obedient, the Prince of Wales attacked her right shoe with vigour. But it would not budge. 'Harder' yelled Camilla. 'Harder' Charles yelled back, 'I'm trying darling! But it's just so bloody tight!' 'Come on give it all you've got ' she cried. Finally when it released, Charles let out a big groan, and Camilla exclaimed 'There! Oh God, that feels so good.'
In their bedroom next door The Queen turned to Prince Phillip and said 'See I told you she was still a virgin with a face like that!'

The priest asks, 'Is that you, little Joey Pagano ?'
'Yes, Father, it is.'
'And who was the girl you were with?'
'I can't tell y ou, Father. I don't want to ruin her reputation'.
"Well, Joey, I'm sure to find out her name sooner or later
so you may as well tell me now. Was it Tina Minetti?'
'I cannot say.'
'Was it Teresa Mazzarelli?'
'I'll never tell.'
'Was it Nina Capelli?'
'I'm sorry, but I cannot name her.'
'Was it Cathy Piriano?'
'My lip s are sealed.'
'Was it Rosa DiAngelo, then?'
'Please, Father, I cannot tell you.'
The priest sighs in frustration.
'You're very tight lipped, and I admire that.
But you've sinned and have to atone.
You cannot be an altar boy now for 4 months.

'Four months vacation and five good leads.'
