Canadian Woman Gets 3.5 Years For Murder

A court in northern Thailand has sentenced a Canadian woman to 3 1/2 years in prison for the fatal shooting of her American common-law husband two years ago in Chiang Mai. [via CNews]

Ed. I'm just coming to terms with the fact that a rampant pedo can negotiate bail 4 times (didn't this arouse police suspicion?) when a convicted murderer gets 3.5 years jail time because "she was in a rage after being provoked". That's alright then. The old boy's dead but there were extenuating circumstances. What sort of message does this send out. If you want to bump somebody off, bring them to Thailand for a holiday. If you get caught, just tell the judge you were angry and you'll be home for tea...... If the woman had been Thai, she probably would have been home for tea. I'm sleeping with one eye open from now on.

  • Are we gonna see a surge of tourists for Easter? I'm sure there's a good few bar-keeps who hope so. We should at least see a bit of a Bangkok surge from employees of farang companies recognising farang bank holidays

  • Another very positive write up on Pattaya property by Raimon Land in The Nation

Ed. Question. If Pattaya is property is booming why are Raimon Land working so hard to promote it. Surely, if what they say is true, shouldn't they have more than enough customers knocking on their door without them having to write all these articles for the local press.

  • Friday Night Lights - I picked up a 5 DVD set of the first series at Tuk Com on a whim and have been totally blown away by the quality of this NBC series. I just can't fridaynight.jpgstop watching it. I'm not qualified to say if this is an accurate portrayal of small town America or not but what I can say is it is riveting, moving and at times brilliant. It's all about the trials and tribulations of the players, (and their families), in the local high school football team and covers 'fun' issues related to teenage rites of passage. Sort of Picket Fences with the sheriff traded in for a football coach. No gratuitous violence, no nudity but still the best thing I've seen on DVD this year and that includes No Country For Old Men and There Will be Blood.

Sadly only 15 of the 22 episodes for Series 2 were filmed because of the writers strike and it's unclear if a third season will receive studio approval. I'm gutted. Hut, hut, hut...

  • The illegal invasion of Iraq has led to the deaths of over 1m people, and created over 4m refugees. It has made not only Iraq, but many other countries in the world, far more dangerous places. Yet despite the death and destruction they have caused, those responsible for this most deceitful of wars remain free, and still stalk the corridors of power. Worse still, they are now doing all they can to propagandise for another illegal attack, this time on Iran. [via Seumas Milne, The Guardian}

  • Enhance Windows Explorer with Filebox Extender - Filebox Extender is a free windows explorer extension that adds a number of buttons on the top right of open windows next to the minimize, maximize and close buttons, including a "stay on top" pushpin button, a window roll-up button that hides all but the title bar of a window, a favorites folder button, and a recent folders button. Filebox Extender provides these filebox-extender-screenshot4-preview.jpgfunctions in open folder and application windows, in open/save dialogs and in the system tray.

Although there are a number of programs similar to this that are also free, Filebox Extender has done a terrific job in the brilliant placement of the functions that it provides on the top right of open windows (near the minimize, maximize, and close buttons). This is a good idea because it standardizes Filebox Extender’s interface whether the user is working with open folder windows, application windows, or even open/save dialogs. The end result is that Filebox Extender manages to provide a streamlined, more intuitive user experience than some of the other available freeware programs which provide similar functions. • All In One Sidebar - An Extension for Firefox. Surfing the web with Firefox is one of my favourite things to do. Not only does this marvelous web browser work better than Internet Explorer, but it also has a vast number of extensions that make it function phenomenally. The All in One Sidebar is just the latest extension that will let Firefox users easily customize their web browser.

With a few simple clicks, you will be able to quickly access your controls and have a more user friendly Internet experience. Being able to personalize your web surfing according to your own preferences means that you will spend less time searching for commonly used functions. Although the All in One Sidebar is very similar to the one used in Opera, there are plenty of other features that cause it to stand out.

The All in One Sidebar will allow you to switch between different sidebars in an instant. This worthwhile tool has a convenient slide out button with a toolbar. Instead of having to make numerous gestures to get to your internet history or bookmarks, you will be able to do so in just one click. Being able to monitor installed extensions or themes with a single click is a wonderful time saver. As impatient as I am at times, this feature has become extremely useful because of this.

Usually, it doesn’t take very long to clutter a Firefox web browser with all of the extensions available for download. However, the All in One Sidebar offers a nice and neat system to organize a major mess. It definitely makes accessing some of the common features of a Firefox web browser more accessible. Once you download this extension and then restart the browser, you will notice how narrow the panel appears. In a few short minutes, you will be able to change this default look and customize it according to your own preferences.

The All in One Sidebar is a very well designed Firefox extension. One of its major benefits is that it will exceed your expectations. This completely useful and much needed extension will place numerous features within your immediate reach. Not only is the All in One Sidebar a great tool, but it is an irreplaceable one as well.

I love the fact that it allows me to add my commonly used items in one easy to reach place. Firefox users that have long desired a cleaner interface should download this extension. You will then be able to build your perfect web browser because the All in One Sidebar is simple to use, customize, and enjoy. [via Online Tech Tips]

  • The Polish couple's sex life was terrible, so they went out and bought a sex manual. "Honey, I want to perform oral sex with you like it says in the book, but it smells so bad. Why don't you go out and buy some of that feminine deodorant spray?" She agreed. And hour later, she returned, all excited. "You should see the flavours they have!" she told her husband. "Strawberry, cherry, banana. So many they had!" "What did you get?" he interrupted. "Tuna", she replied.
