A ferry carrying 42 people capsized Tuesday near Phi Phi in Krabi province but rescuers saved everyone who was on board. The boat sank when a high wave hit hit the boat during a storm. The 38 passengers and four crew were all rescued shortly after the accident. A passenger said about one third of the way to Phi Phi island, a strong storm broke out and the boat was hit by a big wave and capsized. Krabi officials said during this time of year, there can be very rough waters and boat trips were not advised. [via The Nation]
- Residents of six southern provinces warned of flash floods - The Meteorological Department Monday warned residents of Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang and Satun to brace themselves against possible flash flooding. In its morning forecast issued at 4 am, the department said the strong southwest Monsoon over the Andaman and Gulf of Thailand would unleash heavy rains in several parts of the country, especially the six southern provinces. It said 60 per cent of areas in Bangkok could also be hit by rains. [via The Nation]
- The Army help with Pattaya Beach clean-up - Khun Niran, the Mayor of Pattaya opened a special Beach Cleaning Day organized by City Hall to celebrate the recent Birthday of Her Majesty the Queen. Joining the Mayor were members of the Royal Thai Army who were assisted by City Hall Street Cleaning Workers. The team spent 7 hours cleaning up the entire stretch of Pattaya Beach.
