Warning For parents

I had decided not to post items that show Pattaya in a bad light because even articles on this blog get picked up by the big search engines but the following is too important to ignore. Let's hope it's just a one off. Let's also hope any foreigners involved are tracked down and locked away for a very long time. Question is if Yotsapon knew where to find customers at short notice how come the police don't know where these people were. There's an obvious conclusion to draw here that doesn't bear thinking about.

On 28th October, Khun Natarigar aged 39 made a report at Pattaya Police Station which stated that she had lost her 8 year old son at the Carrefour Shopping Center. Since then she has been frantically searching the streets of Pattaya for him and in the early hours of Tuesday morning, she spotted her son in Soi Sunee Plaza in South Pattaya. The boy was with an older man and thanks to a quick response by Police, the man was arrested and the boy was returned to his Mother. At Pattaya Police Station, Khun Yotsapon aged 24 explained that he abducted the boy at Carrefour and then took him to Soi Sunee Plaza and sold the boy to foreigners. The boy was given 100 Baht every time he went with a customer. Police are now searching for the foreigners who engaged in sexual activities with the boy and Khun Yotsapon is now behind bars on various charges relating to the case. [via Pattaya City News]

On a lighter note, I've published a couple of comments received from readers regarding earlier posts at Pattaya Rag:

1. Comment on yesterday's post, Unfair Press by A. Reader

The reason that Pattaya is called a shithole is nothing to do with the sex industry it is because it is a shithole - open drains, missing manhole covers, electric cables hanging all over the place, rubbish everywhere, walking in the road because businesses have taken over the pavement etc., etc. The sex industry in Pattaya is better than Amsterdam, and other places, for both quality and value and should enhance, rather than detract from, its reputation. Ed. Can't argue against A. Reader's point. Maybe the bad press relates more to infrastructure than working girls. Still doesn't help though

2. Comment on Peppermint 87 by Jim

I caught a quick look at 87 in Peppermint on Thursday I think. The body was indeed outstanding. She was leaving stage as I got in, so had no opportunity to explore further. I will have to disagree about an off night, or at least part of an off night at Peppermint. I went in twice on Friday. At about 9:00 the place was packed and jumping like normal. Went in again about 12:30 AM, The place was dead. For some reason, the girls were covered on all three stages. Wonder what happened. Ed. If the girls were covered then PC Plod was on the prowl. Thanks to Jim we now know 87 exists. Next challenge, a photo.

  • French man dies apparently of overdose of impotence drug - A French man died apparently of recreational use of impotence drug in this seaside town of Pattaya early Tuesday morning, police said. Prom Khorjonsuk, 35, a bar girl, told police that the man visited the bar on the ground floor of the building at 2 am and hired her Bt1,000 to have sex with him. Prom said the man had slept with once and took several pills of Dormilax impotence drug and asked to sleep with her again, but she excused herself out of the room and came back in the morning to find that he had already died [via The Nation]

  • Bangkok's luxury hotels are facing a 30-per-cent vacancy rate this year as a result of political uncertainties, a strong baht and a weak economy, an international property consultant predicted Tuesday. "We expect that overall occupancy rates for Bangkok's four- and five-star hotels will only be 70 per cent in 2007 compared to 75 per cent in 2006," said Navaphol Viriyakunkit, head of research at CB Richard Ellis Thailand. Hotel prospects for 2008 looked worse because of a looming glut in the market. [via Earthtimes.org]

  • Boston Red Sox 2007 World Champions - This was posted on a number of forums today and I wondered how Boston got to be world champions when only American teams were involved in the competition. Surely the Boston Red Sox are the 2007 U.S. National Champions. Now if the Red Sox went head to head with the national champions of the other 2 baseball playing nations, Cuba and Japan and won, then they would be tri-nations champions or champions of the baseball playing world but never world champions. Why can't American's call it what it is, are they insecure or something?

  • The following are accounts of actual* exchanges between airline pilots and control towers around the world:
    • A student became lost during a solo cross-country flight. While attempting to locate the aircraft on radar, ATC asked, "What was your last known position?" Student: "When I was number one for take-off."

    • There's a story about the military pilot calling for a priority landing because his single-engine jet fighter was running "a bit peaked." Air Traffic Control told the fighter jock that he was number two, behind a B-52 that had one engine shut down. "Ah," the fighter pilot remarked, "The dreaded seven-engine approach."

    • The German air controllers at Frankfurt Airport are renowned as a short-tempered lot. They not only expect one to know one's gate parking location, but how to get there without any assistance from them. So it was with some amusement that we (a Pan Am 747) listened to the following exchange between Frankfurt ground control and a British Airways 747, call sign Speedbird 206. Speedbird 206: " Frankfurt , Speedbird 206 clear of active runway." Ground: "Speedbird 206. Taxi to gate Alpha One-Seven." The BA 747 pulled onto the main taxiway and slowed to a stop. Ground: "Speedbird, do you not know where you are going?" Speedbird 206: "Stand by, Ground, I'm looking up our gate location now." Ground (with quite arrogant impatience): "Speedbird 206, have you not been to Frankfurt before?" Speedbird 206 (coolly): "Yes, twice in 1944, but it was dark...and I didn't land."

  1. the u.s. WORLD SERIES was named for the New York World newspaper, which was the original sponsor of the contest and did so until the newspaper went under.

Just like a fucking brit to assume something he has no clue about and no motivation to actually do the research first.
