News

  • From tomorrow, May 8, the ban on using a mobile phone in your car will have teeth, i.e. you will be fined

  • Pattaya seems to have more than a few jarheads wandering around at the moment. Is this the advance party for Cobra Gold or the full load. We'll no doubt find out over the next week or so. I won't be hearing many 'sexy man' calls for the next few weeks that's for sure. Reality is a world I don't want to live in!!!!
Comment received from Sexy No More:
The U.S. Navy and Marine ("Jardhead") reference you made is more than just Cobra Gold. In fact, the U.S. marked the resumption of military aid to Thaialnd last week with the arrival of the U.S. Seventh Fleet flagship, the USS Blue Ridge. Prime Minister Samak was joined by the heads of the Thai military services, the U.S. ambassador and the brass from the Seventh Fleet. The Blue Ridge is just one of 7 ships slated to visit Pattaya this month; only about half of which are here for Cobra Gold, which runs only 8-12 May this year. The rest are here for regular R&R calls, which were suspended after the Sept. 2006 coup. Expect ships to arrive at least one to two a week for the next two months or more and 25 ship calls to Pattaya this year.

  • Pattaya City is making preparations for Buddhism's most important festival, Wisakha Bucha Day, May 19, 2008, (the anniversary of the Lord Buddha's birth, enlightenment and entry into nirvana, or paranirvana, to be precise) by holding a Meditational Run and Procession. If my memory is still working then this is usually a day when all bars are closed.

  • Expect traffic jams to return when Thai schools reopen in the next 2 weeks after a 2 - 3 month hot season break.

  • Manchester City will arrive in Thailand on May 14 to open a club store and hold a clinic before playing against Thailand Premier All-Stars on May 17. The team will take a quick trip to the resort of Pattaya before leaving on May 20 for two matches in Hong Kong. Ed. They obviously read about Pattaya being voted the number one sex city in the world in Askmen

  • Doug was kind enough to add me to the following poll of Top Thailand Blogs:

If you support the Mugabe technique for election victory then please drop in to the site and hit 5 stars against Pattaya Rag........ No, I've no shame. Thought you'd have realised that already. I'm listed at No 22 as I post this.
