  • Winchester, Soi Wat Boon Jomtien, Sunday, May 11, live music from the San Miguellers, Coyotee dancers and complimentary food. Check it out.

  • Strange happenings on the strip last night. I went in to Heaven's Above with a couple of pals and we all downed a cold beer whilst ogling the lovelies and discussing what bar to hit next. Decision made, we checked our bills, two with the correct change and one with a Bt500 for a Bt80 bill. We waited for the change but nothing came. My pal queried it with the waitress and got nowhere so he went to speak with the farang manager. They were chatting for a while and I realised that the manager was in a difficult position. He didn't know if his staff were at fault or if my pal was trying to clip him for Bt420.

As I'd seen the Bt500 go in the 'bin' I thought it might help if I backed up my pals claim. MISTAKE! I went over to the manager and confirmed what my pal was saying was correct. The manager's reaction was to take a swing at me which resulted in a mass melee in front of the bar. Two friends/customers grabbed the manager to restrain him and me and my two pals were advised to leave the bar. We exited the bar and were followed out by the American owner/partner in the bar who wanted to know what had happened.

We told him about the missing change and he suggested we return to see him the following day so he would have time to check out what had happened. At this point my shortchanged' pal's had enough and ask's the American if he's calling him a liar. Just as we were all losing the plot the Mamasan came out of the bar and said the waitress was drunk and made a mistake. The American offered Bt1,000 compensation to my one pissed off pal who correctly pointed out that he didn't want Bt1,000, he wanted Bt420. The American had no change so my pal walked away. Principle is a costly trait!!

The question I have is what are punters meant to do when errors occur with the bill. I've read on Bangkok blogs that challenging the bill in some Nana bars will get you a beating. Surely, given the level of education of the staff in most bars this must happen on a fairly regular basis. Some by error and some by intent. Is there really no safe way to complain about being over charged or short changed? I guess in the scheme of things it's no biggie but nobody likes getting clipped. In future, I think I'll carry a wedge of Bt100 notes with me every time I go out?

As far as Heaven's Above is concerned, they've lost 3 customers and got a mention in the blogs that they didn't want. If this incident was a one off for them then it was probably a genuine error. If it's happened before then they need to check if they have a rogue waitress or cashier because more bad publicity they don't need.

If the farang manager at Heaven's Above reads then I hope he takes the opportunity to comment on why he felt the need to start throwing lead. Can't believe he felt threatened by 2 middle aged guys querying a bill. Particularly when he was stood with a group of buddies.

  • Finally got in to the new Mistys, Club Misty on Soi 15 last night and wow, was I impressed.

The club is a cross between Beach Club and Casino, with girls dancing on mirror topped tables round the perimeter of the bar and more girls dancing on a centre stage and on gantries overhead. They had 59 girls on duty last night out of a possible stable of 75. I kid you not but the bar is so stunning you hardly notice the girls. Okay, that's probably bullshit but you have to see the place to understand what I mean. For the record, Club Misty has jumped in to my personal Top 5 favourite bars.

  • Pattaya City organise the 4th Koh Larn Mountain Bike Challenge 2008 on June 14 - 15 [via Pattaya Daily News]

    • Ban Chang bars now have their own web site aptly named ban chang bars. If you forget it, I've added it to the list of useful links in the right margin

    • I did the math on the Paul McCartney-Heather Mills divorce. After 5 years of marriage, he paid her $49 million.

Assuming he banged her every night during their 5 year relationship (and being married men, we all know THAT doesn't happen), it ends up costing him $26,849 per lay, not counting attorney's fees and court costs.

On the other hand, Elliot Spitzer's call girl Kristen charges $4,000 an hour. Crazy, right?

    But wait...

Had Paul McCartney employed Kristen for 5 years, he would've paid $7.3 million for an hour of sex every night for 5 years (a savings of $41+million). Value-added benefits are: a 22 year old hot babe, no begging, no coaxing, never a headache, wide open menu, ability to put BOTH legs around you, no bitching and complaining or "to do" lists. Best of all, she leaves when you're done, and comes back the next day, ready for another round. All at 1/7th the cost, with no legal fees.* *

Is it just me, or is Kristen a WAY better deal
